  12. 1. Introduction
  13.    ------------

  15.     "Mail  Daemon" (MD) is an online mail server aimed for use by your
  16.     points and/or nodes.
  17.  
  18.     You can show waiting mail, up and download mail and edit/pause
  19.     mail and file areas via netmail messages to XAreaFix.
  20.  
  21.     MD is the successor of "CheckOutboundMail" aka "XOMC" which I
  22.     released earlier for Xenolink.
  23.  
  24.     MD is fully written in C and is therefore much faster than its'
  25.     predecessor XOMC which was written in ARexx.
  26.  
  27.     MD closely communicates with XAreaFix (© Bart Schraa, XEcho
  28.     Development) and makes use of its' configuration files. To use
  29.     the AreaFix part in MD, you MUST install and configure XAreaFix
  30.     first!

  33.     Why this door was written
  34.     -------------------------

  36.     Many new points at your system have problems using XAreaFix; they
  37.     find it difficult to communicate with a utility which doesn't
  38.     answer them in their language.  They then bother you with
  39.     questions you have answered a thousand times ;-).

  41.     There's where MD comes in!

  43.     It enables your points to easily configure their mail areas and
  44.     see the effect of the changes immediately.

  46.     So if a new point asks you something about XAreaFix, just redirect
  47.     them to MD :).

  51.    ------------

  53.     MD requires the following:
  54.  
  55.     - Kickstart 2.x or better.
  56.     - Xenolink BBS 1.90 and up.

  62.     - Display waiting mail.
  63.     - Upload & download mail.
  64.     - Delete unwanted mail packet(s).
  65.     - Add, remove, pause or resume mail & file areas for an address.
  66.     - Fully GUI & menu driven.
  67.     - Surveyor mode for Sysop.
  68.     - Utility to convert Points- & Nodes.config from XOMC to MD format.
  69.     - Number of points, nodes and tagnames are memory limited only.
  70.     - Use of memory pools.

  73. 4. Installation
  74.    ------------

  76.     - Install the XAreaFix utility (if you haven't done already).
  77.     - Unpack the archive in RAM:
  78.     - Copy contents of dir "Configuration" to XCONFIG:
  79.     - Edit the file "MailDaemon.config" to fit your system.
  80.     - If you have NOT installed XOMC before:
  81.         - Edit the file "Points.config" to fit your system.
  82.         - Edit the file "Nodes.config" to fit your system.

  84.         - Convert the points & nodes config files using "ConvertOMC".
  85.     - Copy contents of dir "Doors" to DOORS:
  86.     - Create a menu entry in one of your menus;

  101.    ---------

  103.     MD is controlled via a user-friendly GUI.  Just play with it for a
  104.     while and you will get the hang of it :-).

  107. 6. Disclaimer
  108.    ----------

  110.     MD is freely distributable as long as nothing is changed in the
  111.     archive.
  112.  
  113.     MD is software "as is" which means that I take no responsibility
  114.     for any damage caused to your system, whether it be MD's fault or
  115.     not.
  116.  
  117.     There's no warranty on MD. I can stop development of this utility
  118.     at any one time.
  119.  
  120.     If you really like MD, please register "OnlineToday" (© 1993-1995,
  121.     Explorer Development), the Xenolink Last Caller utility which only
  122.     costs you DFL.25,= (or USD 20,=).

  149.       LogDir (taken from Dir.config).

  151.       NOTE: Only *warnings* are written to the log. *Errors* are
  152.       still displayed on-screen! So keep checking this log to
  153.       eliminate any further problems.
